London-based digital bank Revolut announced it has received conditional approval in the United States for a banking license as it prepares to expand its services in the US. The conditional license adds to the fintech giant’s existing approvals in several markets, including the UK, Australia, Mexico, and France.

In an official announcement on Thursday, Revolut said it received approval from the US Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) and is currently working to meet other requirements as stipulated by law. These include approvals from the Federal Reserve (Fed) and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). The plan is to receive a final approval from the OCC and officially begin providing services to potential customers in the US by 2027.

US Launch Soon

Founder and CEO Nik Storonsky expressed the company’s eagerness to offer its services in the US. According to Storonsky, the conditional OCC approval provides the right foundation for Revolut to create value in what he describes as the world’s largest financial market.

Revolut US CEO Cetin Duransoy, the approval praised the OCC for the decision, stating, “We’re grateful for the OCC’s open and transparent dialogue throughout this process. They were both diligent and expedient with our application, allowing us to remain on track for a 2027 launch of our proposed national bank.”

Revolut’s Expansion

The company announcement states Revolut has been “rapidly securing banking licenses and launching operations through Latin America”. It recently launched a Mexican arm and is working to meet regulatory requirements in several other LATAM countries, including Colombia, Argentina, Peru, and Brazil.

In 2026 alone, Revolut obtained a full banking license in France, an unrestricted banking license (ADI) in Australia, and a retail payments facilities and stored value license from the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates. It had received in-principle approval last year from the Arab financial regulator.

In its annual report for 2025, Revolut noted that it has more than 80 million retail customers globally, and onboards 1 million new customers every 17 days. The company projects it will reach 100 million customers by mid-2027, a goal that would be significantly boosted by final approval from the US OCC. In addition, the report boasts a 66% increase in total balances, to $67.5 billion. Currently operating in 30 markets, the British digital bank aims to launch as a bank in 100 countries. On the business side, it reports more than 750,000 companies using Revolut Business, with Business customers up 33%.

Reports state that Revolut seeks to offer US customers several services, including savings, checking, and credit products, along with credit cards and loans. Over time, it will also offer business banking and access to stablecoins. Notably, the digital bank’s three-year plan excludes mortgages, which it plans to launch later, after a testing period in other regions.
